King Kong DVD News
Universal has finally (officially) announced the DVD release of Peter Jackson’s King Kong for 3/28. Three versions will be available - single-disc full frame and anamorphic widescreen standard editions (SRP $29.98 each) and a 2-disc anamorphic widescreen Special Edition (SRP $30.98). Audio for each will be Dolby Digital 5.1. All of the versions will feature the same 188-minute cut seen in theaters. Specific details on the extras to be included have yet to be released, but you can reasonably expect audio commentary and lots of those behind-the-scenes production dairies.

Master Replicas Pirates of the Caribbean News
In addition to their article on our new Disney character statues, figures.com has just posted a a sneak preview of our 2006 Pirates of the Caribbean line.Swords, keys, and coins for you seafaring scallywags…Master Replicas will have numerous full-scale prop replicas and collectibles on shelves for the release of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Master Replicas Darth Maul FX Lightsaber Pictures
Master ReplicasThe Darth Maul FX Saber is huge when “fully assembled”– just look at the photos. It will be sold as “battle damaged” halves. Each of the halves is sculpted like the other battle damaged props– the emitter crystal is visible on the “damaged” end. A connector will be included which allows the two halves to be connected. Slimar to the way that the bottom of the hilt unscrews to access the battery compartment, the “locking” ring is removed and replaced with the coupler ring instead. The Maul Saber continues to improve MR’s FX technology, using AAA batteries instead of AA to produce a bright red blade when illuminated. In addition the fact two sabers are joined to make the full saber, means that you will have 2 speakers (1 from each half), producing great sound effects.

There will be a Qui Gon mini this year on the line. In our photos it’s on the top of the triple saber display on the right (shown on E2 Anakin base).
Mini blasters:
MR has continued to produce outstanding scaled prop replicas. As you can see from the photos, unless you’re holding the blaster in the palm of your hand, the detail would make you think that it is much bigger. The blaster will follow the saber tradition of a mixture of metal and plastic but will continue to have the detail and weight we’ve seen in the scaled replica line. In answer to the long running question, YES there will be chase props for the mini blasters. Here’s the major news– not only will 5% of the run be gold finished, 2.5% will be black chromed!
Studio Scale Models:
The detailing on the Y-wing is unbelieveable. The R2 shown at ToyFair will be replcaed with an R5 to be movie accurrate.
The Falcon is coming. That’s right, MR is planning on bringing a studio scale Milennium Falcon to us. Look at the details of the sculpting process they unveiled at Toy Fair. This prop will be quite simply HUGE. The Y-wing is big, but the Falcon is even bigger. Travis from Master Replicas was kind enough to hold up a silouhette for the studio scale falcon to show it’s size. The cutout is the length and width of the Falcon!
MR will definitely be releasing the Poker set this year, and it’s going to be even better than we expected. The chips themselves will not the the “standard” poker chips with ships/logos we’ve seen, instead they will be metal (standard chip weight 13 grams) with a sculpted relief image in the middle. Oh, and the case will be a replica of Han in Carbonite.
New Lightsaber Edition Sizes Released
The edition sizes for the Limited Edition Master Replicas lightsabers have been released. They can all be see in the lightsabers section. Some as low as 2000.
Chronicles of Narnia DVD Release Date
Buena Vista has also finally (officially) announced the DVD release of Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe for 4/4. The single-disc version (SRP $29.99) will be available in either full frame or anamorphic widescreen, and will include audio commentary with director Andrew Adamson, production designer Roger Ford and producer Mark Johnson, a second commentary with Adamson and the film’s child stars (Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell), a text trivia track option, and bloopers. The 2-disc Special Collector’s Edition version will include anamorphic widescreen video, and all of the special features from the single-disc version. Additional extras will include the Chronicle of a Director video diary, The Children’s Magical Journey set tour, 8 different Cinematic Storytellers video diaries, 3 behind-the-scenes featurettes (including Anatomy of a Scene: The Melting River, C.S. Lewis: From One Man’s Mind and the interactive Creating Creatures), Creatures of the World biographies, an interactive 3D Narnia map and the Legends in Time timeline. Audio for both editions will be available in a Dolby Digital 5.1 “Home Theater Mix” and DTS 5.1. Note that the studio is releasing a UMD version for the PSP on 4/4 as well (SRP $29.99) which will include bloopers.

Spider-Man 3 trailer in late summer
