Bad New for Sirius Black Fans

Douglas Urbanski, of the Douglas Management Group has told Dissendium that unless an offer is made by next week, Gary Oldman will not be reprising his role as Sirius Black in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. A deadline has been put in place for early next week, Mr. Urbanski told Dissendium. He said that the desire on Warner Brother’s part has been low since the beginning, even though the money Oldman wants to reprise his role is little. He added that it is unfair for Oldman to wait, as other films have assumed he is apart of the next Potter film, and, like the rest of us, he needs work for the summer. As of this moment, Gary Oldman is not a part of Order of the Phoenix, has never been, and unless anything changes next week, will not be a part of this.

A New ‘Friday the 13th’ Officially Announced

Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes shingle is coming aboard to produce the 11th outing in the sturdy “Friday the 13th” franchise for New Line.Studio’s hoping to fast-track the project — centered on the origins of the Jason Voorhees character — so that the pic can be released three weeks before Halloween on Friday, Oct. 13. Bay will produce with Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

New Line’s hired Mark Wheaton (”Son of the Morning Star”) to pen the script. Studio prexy Toby Emmerich is overseeing along with execs Cale Boyter and Jeff Katz.

The original “Friday the 13th” — set at a reopened camp that had closed 20 years earlier — took nearly $40 million in domestic grosses in 1980. That’s still the best domestic performance in the series, although New Line’s spinoff pic “Freddy Vs. Jason” was a solid success in 2003, with $82 million domestic.

Platinum Dunes, which Bay launched in 2001 as a low-budget horror specialist, produced New Line’s 2003 remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and its upcoming “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.”

Goblet of Fire DVD Review

The DVD extras have come a long way since Philosopher’s Stone (Sorcerer’s Stone in the USA). Film by film we’ve seen more of what goes on behind the camera on a Potter movie. And Goblet of Fire goes further than any of the previous movies.

Highlights include the inspired choice of writer/director Richard Curtis to interview Dan, Emma and Rupert; the Meet the Champions section with Clemence, Stan and Robert; and the section dealing with the film’s climax - the return of He Who Must Not Be Named.

Lowlights include no JK Rowling - by her own admission, finishing writing this book was one of her most challenging experiences. It would have been wonderful to hear from her about this film version. And there’s no director commentary from Mike Newell.

Mostly the deleted scenes are bits trimmed from the cinema release - Harry trying to catch Cho on a staircase, Snape and Karkaroff arguing while Snape blasts students - out of carriages not bushes - who are getting too friendly at the Yule Ball. A creepy conversation between Crouch and Moody.

And there’s the full version of Do The Hippogriff, fine if that’s your thing. And also a return of the School Song. Potter purists will want the scenes for completeness’ sake, for others it’s easy to see why they never made the final cut - they don’t further the plot particularly and things often have to go for time or pacing.
